Guilty
It was Friday night and Dustin was ready for his all-white party that he was attending Saturday. He looked at his Galaxy S24 and read the notification that stated his order was being delivered in three hours. He couldn’t wait to receive his pants that he ordered. He looked all around and couldn’t find any white pants at any of the shops he went to. He was lucky to find some online that would make it in time for the party. He made himself a little snack to help make the time pass by while he waited for the delivery to come. Some strawberry yogurt, one banana, one apple, a handful of frozen strawberries, a few chunks of ice, a squirt of honey and a little bit of pineapple juice went into the blender. He made himself a little smoothie and sat at his desk to work on a few projects that he kept neglecting for too long. As Dustin continued to work, he couldn’t help but notice how much time flew by. He checked his notifications, and it still stated his package was out for delivery. He was getting a little irritated and decided to walk down to his mailbox to see if maybe they dropped off the package and forgot to notify him. After realizing his mailbox was empty, he got worried that it was not going to arrive. He walked back to his apartment and continued to work so that he wouldn’t get frustrated, but it was no good, he was growing angrier with every second that passed by. As he got back in, his phone rang, it was Tim Jones, one of his boys he has been knowing for several years.
“What’s up bro?” Dustin said.
“You ready for this party man?” Tim asked?
Dustin tried to hold back his anger but couldn’t keep it inside. “Hell naw bro!”
“What’s wrong man?’ Tim asked.
Dustin shook his head. “My damn pants were supposed to be here by now and they are not here yet.”
“Damn, maybe they’re going to make it tomorrow morning.” Tim tried to assure him.
“They better!” Dustin replied.
Later on, that night, Dustin went to bed hoping that his shipment would arrive before it was time to get ready for the party.
The next morning Dustin awoke and made himself a little breakfast. Bacon, eggs, pancakes and cut strawberries. He took a sip of his coffee when he received a call.
“What’s up bro?” He said as he answered.
It was Tim. “Checking up on you man.”
“I’m good, waiting for my pants to get here.” Dustin replied.
“They’ll get there.” Tim said, trying to make him feel better.
Dustin continued eating and turned on the news after getting off the phone. He watched the news every morning before starting his day to get a read on life. There was so much going on in the world that many people took for granted and he wasn’t trying to be one of them. After he was done eating, he went to make it to his haircut appointment that he had set for himself. He figured by the time he got back his pants should have arrived. He got to the barbershop and found out the customer before him was running longer than was supposed to and it pushed his time back. He didn’t really mind it because he had time before the party anyway and he loved getting his haircut by his favorite female barber at “Fantasy Cuts”. Fantasy Cuts is a cosplay barbershop. The barbers dress up in fantasy costumes and do the cuts. Today he was getting cut by Sailor Moon. After getting the cut just like he wanted it Dustin tipped his barber Michelle and hurried home. As he pulled up, he didn’t notice a package or anything, so he was hoping it was in the mailbox. He checked his mailbox and there was nothing inside. He tried to hold back his anger but couldn’t as he slammed the mailbox door closed. He walked in the house and began cursing.
“Fuck!” He yelled, as he walked through the hallway to his room. He figured he should look for a different outfit to put together just in case the pants didn’t come. Just as he entered his closet, he heard his notification bell ring on his phone. He looked to see what it was and read that his delivery was delayed and wasn’t going to arrive until Wednesday. This really infuriated him to a point of no return. He threw his phone onto his bed. “Why the fuck did they say it was on the way?”, he yelled to himself. “Damn driver probably just didn’t want to stop!”, he continued to say out loud. “Hope he crash his truck or something, got me waiting like a damn fool.”, he ranted on. As he continued to spit out profanities throughout the house, he walked into the living room right when the three o’clock news was beginning. He then heard breaking news from the reporter and plopped onto the couch.
“We start off with this breaking news report.”, the announcer stated. “A delivery driver in the Los Angeles area was shot and robbed.”
Dustin looked puzzled at first, but he continued to listen to the story. He later found out that the driver was in his part of town and most likely was delivering his pants. He felt bad talking about the driver to find out what truly happened. He couldn’t believe it. The report later identified the driver had passed away at the hospital. He felt guilty for saying the things he did. He felt in some type of way that he put negative energy into the universe and caused this to happen. As the day went on, he decided to not go to the party. He stayed tuned to the news and later found out the driver left behind a fiancé who was with child. He really felt disgusted after hearing this. He got on the internet and searched more on the story. He felt in some way that he owed this lady an apology of some kind. He finished reading the article and gained more information. Later on, he found out the name of the fiancé, she was expecting any day now and she was someone who had a familiar name. He looked her up on social media and realized she was someone in his circle. She had a few mutual friends with him. This newly acquired information made him want to find her in person.
Dustin called up Tim and let him know that he was not going to the party. After doing more research he realized that the fiancé that was left behind was actually closer than he thought. He felt like he should be there when the baby was delivered.
